Welcome

Welcome to Heads and Tales – the first ever StirlingCastle e-newsletter. It’s here to keep you in touch with everything that’s happening, whether you live or work in the area, or are one of the many people who simply love the castle. As you’ll see for the stories below it’s an incredibly busy time, with visits from TV stars, an exhibition of world-class weaving through to important historical discoveries and an exclusive new tartan. To receive future editions of the e-newsletter, which we’ve named in honour of the world-famous Stirling Heads, simply register here and we will send it to you free each month.

Best wishes,

Gillian MacDonald

Tartan Launch
Stylish, distinctive and lovely to look at – that’s the exclusive new Stirling Castle tartan. It has been created to help raise the castle’s profile as one of Scotland’s great heritage attractions. The tartan is being used to help promote the castle worldwide, and is at the heart of the redesigned uniforms our staff are now wearing.

Secrets of the Bedchamber
In Renaissance Scotland, most folk would never know what lay behind the doors of the king and queen’s personal apartments. Most private of them all were the bedchambers, only seen by a few intimates. But Historic Scotland’s refurbishment of the royal palace will change all that, allowing visitors to experience what such apartments would have been like.
